OpenRank-AG
OpenRank-AG ranks an athlete by their best five finishes inside a rolling twelve-month window, with each race weighted by its strength-of-field. The score is normalized so that the strongest amateur in each age group sits at 100.0; scores below that are linearly proportional to the weighted mean.
The window is rolling — a podium at IM Texas in April 2025 still counts in your March 2026 score, but at reduced weight. The five-race cap means an athlete who races eight times only gets credit for their best five; over-racing does not pad the score.
Worked example
Jane Smith finishes IM Texas (SOF 88.4) in 10:42:11, taking 4th in F40-44 of 92 starters. Her age-group percentile for that race is 1 − 4/92 ≈ 0.957.
= 88.4 × 0.957 × 1.000
= 84.6
Across her best five races she averages 67.3, which becomes her current OpenRank-AG. She sits 14th in F40-44 globally on this metric.
Caveats
OpenRank-AG over-rewards racing depth: an athlete who hits five strong fields will out-score an equally fast athlete who only finds three. We accept this trade-off because it punishes strategic under-racing more than it punishes any one performance.
