IRONMAN Age Group Series is a reference site for amateur IRONMAN age-group ranking. It exists because the pro side of triathlon has the PTO ranking and World Triathlon points list, and the amateur side does not — so amateurs and the people watching them have no shared scoreboard for comparing seasons across races, distances, and age groups.
Four scoring systems are computed from the same underlying race data. Toggle between them on any leaderboard. They disagree more than you'd expect; the disagreement is the interesting part.
Data sources
Race results come from the publicly-served IRONMAN results infrastructure (labs-v2.competitor.com), the same API that powers ironman.com/<race>/results. Identity resolution uses the stable per-athlete contactid UUID surfaced by that API, so the same athlete carries cleanly across races and seasons. No private data, no scraping behind a login.
Refresh cadence
The full ingest + scoring pipeline runs weekly on Mondays. A new race typically lands within 48 hours of the official results being published. The materialized leaderboards refresh after every scoring run.
Known limitations
Self-reported AGs are not verified against birth dates. DNFs and DQs are surfaced but do not subtract from a season score. Athletes who change AG mid-season (a January birthday) are tracked under their start-of-year AG until the off-season rebase. Two real athletes with the same name, country, and gender — and no shared registration history with IRONMAN — are best-effort separated by the contactid; truly anonymous one-off entries can collide.
